On 25th September, guests and partners from around the world joined Nagra to celebrate 25 years of the Grimsel Test Site.
Scientists have been carrying out research in the field of radioactive waste disposal in the underground rock laboratory on the Grimsel pass since 1984. Over the years, the Grimsel Test Site (GTS) has evolved into an important international research centre – today organisations from around the world are involved in the projects. The work has provided important input for the Swiss waste management programme and continues to make a valuable contribution to optimisation of geological disposal projects.
The GTS is located beneath the Juchlistock in the 300 million year old granite of the Aar Massif. It is open to visitors from the beginning of June till the end of October.
